CiviCRM is always installed in American English. After installation I always localise it to British English (for my UK sites). But the British Engish translation looks to be pretty identical to the American English. I guess as the translation is incomplete the US version is simply cloned for the released l10n files?

On Transifex the British English translation is only 50-60% complete (not surprising, given that the two in reality will be perhaps 97% identical, who in their right mind wants to trawl through 1000s of strings making no changes but simply copying and saving).

It would make much more sense perhaps to create a complete British English translation which was a clone of the American English, and then modify from there. Does Transifex allow this type of approach?

It's just I'd really like to get rid of "Check" instead of "Cheque" and "Honor" instead of "Honour". Maybe these minor things are a price worth paying, given the ongoing work that would be required to keep the translation up to date. What do others think, if anything?

I wasn't aware of the fallback-to-default model. I'll continue as I was in that case and try to hunt down more instances of "honor" and the like via Transifex.
