Joomla 3.x and Civicrm
May 14, 2013, 06:30:29 pm
Hello -- new Civicrm lurker :)  I have read a few posts about the limited compatibility with Joomla 3.x and some of the logged issues to be addressed...

Best I can tell, correct me if I am wrong, Civicrm  is still unofficial for Joomla 3.x -- If that is the case, can someone clarify what the position on supporting Joomla 3.x is within the development cycle?

For us, this is sorta a deal breaker -- and of course, I understand we are just one organization -- but getting a real-world idea on the support plans would be helpful in determining correct courses of action for us (hanging tight, seeking alternatives, etc.)

Really appreciate the efforts and time everyone is investing in this project...

Thanks!

Have u tried using 4.3 with 3.x?

We believe most of the bugs have been addressed and fixed for 4.3 + J! 3.0

Confirmed that CiviCRM 4.3.3 installs fine on Joomla 3.1.1.

Appreciate the conversation on this issue.

It seems that new sites are better off being built on Joomla 3.1 rather than the v2.5.  The current Joomla is rated as being as significant a release as Joomla 1.6 was.

I think I too will head down the path of installing CiviCRM with the current version of Joomla 3.

Does the latest CiviCRM leverage the Joomla 3.x ACL properly? That was always such a problem with the earlier versions, that there was no security controls back to Joomla ACL groups.

Also, is there a link to a document or table that shows the differences in how CiviCRM works on Joomla vs. Drupal? I know there used to be several features that were not available for Joomla integrations a couple of years ago. Wondering if those gaps have been closed or if they still exist.

sorry for the delayed reply. seemed to have slipped through our response filters :)

yes, civi has been taking advantage of joomla acls for sometime now and from a permissioning perspective does the same thing across all 3 CMS'es (thought there is still the matter of front-end vs back-end in joomla and wp)

there is a fair bit of integration with drupal modules (user reg, views, webform) that is missing in joomla and wordpress. from a core functionality viewpoint, all 3 cms'es have the same set of civi functionality
