Google Apps and CiviSMTP
May 16, 2013, 02:27:37 am
Hi there,

I am currently using Google Apps. Is it possible to use CiviSMTP for bulk mailing, while retaining Google Apps Gmail for day-to-day emails?

Cheers,

Andy

Currently civi allows only one smtp provider and this is not selectable

would be good to allow folks to add multiple smtp providers and give them an option of which to use for bulk mail etc

I suspect this is a 15-25 hour project. Would your org be interested in contributing to and/or funding this feature?

If by day-to-day emails you mean emails you send on behalf of your organization outside of CiviCRM then yes, it is possible to use CiviSMTP separately.

CiviSMTP would be used only for emails sent through CiviCRM which includes bulk email blasts, transactional emails such as contribution receipts and individual emails to CiviCRM contacts.

You use a separate domain for CiviSMTP emails than for your organizational non-CiviCRM emails. So for example if you are using domain @yourorg.com with Google Apps you would use something like newsletter.yourorg.com domain for emails sent through CiviSMTP.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Best,

Decided to stick with Mailchimp for the moment.

@Lobo I'm afraid funding isn't really an option at the present time :(
