Online event registration with additional donation

Is it possible to have the option to add additional donation when registering for an event?  I know that is possible with membership signup but I cant seem to find a way with online event registrations.  Its fine doing it as 2 independent steps on the backend but on the online frontend I wanted to see if I could make it simpler for the users with just one transaction.  Any suggestions?

Have you looked at making a Price Set and putting in a $1 field where people can put in the 'number' they want to donate - and just set it to not show the price.

Brilliant.  That seems to do the trick.  I am going to run through a few trials to see if everything works as expected but so far it seems great.
