Viewing CiviCase Activities in Drupal
May 20, 2013, 03:52:54 am
CiviCase looks to be a powerful platform and a good fit for supporting a research project we have that requires the administering of multiple data collection forms for several patient cohorts over the course of a 12-month study. However we've encountered some nagging problems with the display of CIviCase information in Drupal views, including:
1. The Drupal views for CIvi activities appears to be duplicating the record display for a single activity, once any modification have been done to the activity (eg. changing the scheduled date)
2. Although we have deleted some Activities records through the Civi interface, they still display. I believe when Civi deletes, it puts records in trash rather that deleting them completely, so is there is a mechanism for emptying the trash, or otherwise ensuring that records in Civi trash don't show up on Drupal views?
3. We've added a variety of Custom Activity types and Custom Data types, but Civi does not seem to recognize these for display these on the existing native Reports (eg. Print the Case report - no activities are displayed, although they appear on the Case activities screen)

We'd welcome some insight on some of these issues, and would be willing to engage support services to take a look at diagnosing and resolving these issues (if that kind of shameless soliciting of services is allowed on this forum -  :-[ )

For problem #1 we have added a filter in 4.3 to fix that - you need to set "Activity is Current Revision" in your view.
For #2 you need to set the "Activity is in the trash" filter in your view.

Thx Coleman, for the speedy response/resolution. We'll go ahead and do the 4.3 upgrade and expect that it will address items 1 & 2. Will confirm result when done.

Upgrading to  CiviCRM 4.3.3 solved items 1 & 2 as suggested. Thx again.
Another seemingly related issue.. On the Civi Case dashboard, there is a "Summary of All Cases" that shows a count of the various Case types in the various statuses. Even when  we've deleted cases, the count still remains. Is this a related issue of records in trash. Any fix for this?

If you can replicate that bug on the demo site then please file a bug report on Jira with steps to reproduce.

Was not able to reproduce the issue.
As it turns out, apparently contacts with associated cases were deleted,  leaving orphan cases. We thought once a contact is deleted, related cases are deleted also.. Is there a recommended way to delete those orphan cases?

I wouldn't call them "orphaned" unless you have deleted the contact permanently.
When a contact is moved to the trash all their associated records are left untouched. If the contact is deleted permanently then their activities, cases, contributions, etc are also deleted.
You should add "contact is deleted" filter to your view to account for this.
