Email Template Design

I can't seem to find a tutorial on how to design email templates for CiviCRM.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  We only want a simple header (logo, slogan, and social networking icons)  the body would hold the necessary tokens.  We designed a jpg header and uploaded it, but it does not show when the emails are sent.

Here is what we do:

- Under Administer>CiviMail>Headers, Footers...
- Create your Header
- Insert the HTML code you want in the HTML section and the plain text in the plain text section
- For references to images and other hyperlinks, etc. be sure to reference the complete URL (i.e. http://<yoursite>/images/logo.jpg) This will assure the emails will contain the images you want.

This should do it. You can insert tokens into the footer for Opt Out URL, etc. to make things easier.
