Adding anonomous Contacts
May 26, 2013, 10:54:35 pm
It looks as though I am unable to create anonymous contacts in CiviCRM.  An anonymous Contact is one where the person chooses to contact our organisation but is uncomfortable giving their name.

Is this expected behaviour?  Or can I include such contacts please?

CiviCRM requires either a first/last name or an emailaddress. You can not add anonymous contacts, how would you distinguish between them? Or do you keep their emailaddress? If not, what would be the point of saving them?

Do you need to be able to distinguish between the anonymous contacts or is this "just" to keep try of how many activities you've had with one or several "generic anonymous" contact?

if it's only to keep track you've had 30 phone calls last month, you can create a contact first name "anonymous" last name "contact" and track the activities with this contact.

If you need to distinguish between the anonymous contacts, you'll need to have some kind of way of distinguish them. How were you doing it before you used civi?

Sounds to me more a case for using a standard Webform so anonymous people can 'contact' the organisation - no civi record is required - data is just stored in webform tables
