Single CiviCRM - Multiple CMS?
May 30, 2013, 10:49:34 am
I have a question about a multiple site installation of CiviCRM that doesn't quite fit into a 'normal' mold.

Is it possible to have a single CiviCRM database set up to work simultaneously with Drupal, Joomla, and WordPress CiviCRM installations?

The explanation is long but the short version is that we are looking to do some testing and development and want to replicate all three as closely as possible without having multiple CiviCRM instances.

Thanks.

Well it's certainly possible to share the CiviCRM code between all 3 CMSs. I do it in my development environment (just symlink the civicrm folder and a few other files to the appropriate places in D/J/WP.
Sharing the DB is trickier - there are some cms-specific settings that are stored in the db (but not many). The main problem would probably be that Civi wants to share the user table with the CMS, and it assumes that there is only one cms to share with.

If you enable multisite then I'm pretty sure the cms specific settings are attached to the specific domain.

We regularly run d6 & d7 off the same Civi as part of a drupal migration strategy (run both for a while)
