Best Practice: Version of Jquery / Jquery update module in Drupal?
May 31, 2013, 12:40:24 pm
In an recent release (not sure which) we had to revert Drupal Jquery-update module to 1.5 as it created a conflict in civicrm. We had very strange event form errors on the site after an upgrade to 4.3.3 and we changed drupal jquery-update to 1.8 (uncompressed and no CDN) and the errors went away.
There were no errors messages reported anywhere, only strange complaints by various users which I could not replicate.  I wonder if CRM-12681 might have been related to jquery as it definitely was affected for our users (I believe the current version of jquery validate no longer supports 1.5)

There have been many issues related to jquery: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/issues/?jql=text%20~%20Jquery%20ORDER%20BY%20affectedVersion%20DESC .

Also, I found this issue: CRM-10670 which mentions many changes to jquery in 4.3. and it looks like Jquery was updated (CRM-11142) to the "latest" release.

So ... what are the requirements / best practice for site-builders?  There is no mention in the wiki requirements.  Should we install jquery update and use latest release?  Any issues with CDN/uncompressed?  How can we check for conflicts with drupal or other modules?  What if we need to user a newer version?

This drupal / jquery-update issue may be causing some jquery errors: https://drupal.org/node/1815896
Also - just discovered this module: https://drupal.org/project/jqmulti

documentation - https://drupal.org/node/578712 suggests different ways to call jquery.  I'll see if a patch makes sense to use drupal to load jquery.

I'm wondering about this myself... CiviCRM 4.4.5 appears to have broken the Pay Later option for us.  :'(
