CiviCRM access through MSQuery
March 28, 2008, 01:44:59 pm
Can anyone tell me if it is possible, or if they have accessed CiviCRM through MSQuery? If so can you describe what's involved in setting up such a connection?

I haven't used MSQuery much. But as I understand it, you need to connect to a data source via ODBC. So in order to do that, you'd need to install the MySQL ODBC driver (http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html), setup the connection in the ODBC connection manager, and then use MSQuery to access the tables.

Doesn't really have anything to do with the CiviCRM app -- it's just a matter of connecting to the MySQL database. I've found the MySQL ODBC connector to be somewhat unreliable. The connection seems to crash pretty easily. But it does work. If you're using shared hosting, you might need to register your IP address through the control panel to permit remote access to the MySQL dbs.
