Multiple event reminders being sent

I'm running Drupal 7.22 and Civi 4.2.6 on shared hosting. Scheduled reminders are set to send 3 days before each event date. For an event happening this Thursday, I received (2) duplicate reminder emails on Tuesday morning, and (4) duplicate emails on Wednesday morning. I've disabled email reminders for now. Should I only use absolute dates? Or am I missing something?

Did you have repeat turned on?  If so, turn if off?

Yes, I use absolute dates, not relative dates.
