When Contacts are created via a Profile - can Profile ID be entered as 'source'
June 05, 2013, 07:02:51 pm
Hi - trying to find ways to make it easier for clients to work out how the heck contacts got added to their database

when a contact is created, if a profile is used, and if nothing else is being entered in to 'source' field, could we have some info such as the Profile, or Contribution page ID?

Would people be receptive to this? What would be involved at code level?

That would be super useful indeed.

The profile name is probably clearer than its id, and the name of the form (user creation, contribution, event registration...) is more appropriate if it's not a profile creation.

Can you see any cases where this might cause problems or conflicts?

Can you envisage a route to achieve this, and should it fill me with dread?

I don't see how it would cause problem, it's adding info in a field that was previously empty, can't imagine of a side effect.

The route is probably not super hard, but as civi doesn't keep the context on a pre hook, you probably have to modify the code at the various places the contact is created (creating the contact from contrib/profile/event/user creation... and if main contact or related ones (current employer)

The one contacts I found harder to identify where these current employer: say that "Bob the bob" registers for an event and put acme as the company, you get both the individual+org created

Someone does some cleanup and delete Bob, you end up with an organisation acme that has no relationship, activity or history and no info beside the name.
