No confirmation email being sent with Paypal Standard as processor

Dear Gurus,

I hope you're well.  I upgraded to the latest CiviCRM 4.3.3 a few weeks back.  I have an event that requires payment.  I have used it to register myself and used paypal to pay for the registration.  It seems to redirect me back to a thank you page, but gives the error:

Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
Could not find valid value for id


Also I noticed after the payment was processed (I got an email confirmation from paypal), but I didn't receive anything automated from CiviCRM (which I setup).  When I look at my status it says I'm registered.  Any ideas on why the Paypal redirect and automated email may not be working?

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

have you fixed this issue.  Im seeing the same behavior
