No Recaptcha for Stand Alone HTML Snip-forms now?
June 12, 2013, 05:36:58 am
For the past two years, I have built many forms to capture info on our site.  Now, after upgrading to 4.3.3, the functionality of Recaptcha appears to be limited to CiviCRM specific forms.  The directions on the Recaptcha field clearly state not to use it for stand alone forms.  At first, I thought that CiviCRM must have taken the stance that Recaphas would be added by default to all stand alone forms and hence it was superfluous to use the check box for this.  I have tested my forms with and without the Recaptcha checked and both using the edit mode and create mode.  I have worked on this in MS IE, Firefox and Safari.   It is never appended to my forms.

Does this mean:
A) Recaptcha is not possible for stand alone forms and we must take on the risk of spam attacks?
B)  Recaptcha must be manually coded into the stand alone form?  This seems backwards and I don't even know if it is possible?
C)  Is there another way to enable recaptcha on stand alone forms?

Are you saying that in prior versions of CiviCRM you could add recaptcha to stand-alone form snippets. I didn't think that was ever possible. My understanding of recaptcha is that by its nature it cannot be added to a simple html form as it requires server-side processing to generate the markup.

Absolutely. I have been doing that for two years and now I cannot.  In fact, I have our site in maintenance mode because the risk of a spam attach is too high.       :(

Coleman, Others
What workarounds have you used for this?  Does everybody have to become a member? And then somehow attach the forms to membership generated civi pages?

Or do you take the risk of spam attack?

Feeling insane on this topic.  I do not understand what allowed us to do this on our past hosting provider and not on our new one. Is the version, we moved from 4.2.7 to 4.3.3?
