Scheduled reminders for membership not sent

I created a membership "test" that has a one month duration, with a scheduled reminder set for that membership to send out a renewal email 20 days from the membership end.  I added a member with a start date of June 1. Since today is June 16, I would expect a reminder to be sent today. 

I manually ran the membership update task then the scheduled reminder task but no email was sent.

Is something broken or are my expectations incorrect?

Using Civi 4.3.4 on Drupal 7.

I'm working through some similar problems with confirming that the membership reminders get sent, but I think your dates are wrong.

If the renewal email is scheduled to go out 20 days before the end date and your one month membership expires on June 30, then the email will go out on June 10 (20 days before), not on June 16.

Meanwhile, did you ever confirm that it works?

I found that I had the membership status field set to "override". I've unchecked that and renewed the membership for another month.  I'll know 20 days before July 31.
