Financial Type to be Specified at Item Level
June 18, 2013, 10:03:54 pm
As part of moves to be more accounting friendly- there was some indication financial/contribution type would become settable at item level last updated back in Nov 2012.

We have a project that is somewhat stuck but for this functionality, needing to differentiate clearly between donations and membership payments, but while needing to include price sets for regional membership surcharges that preclude using the primary additional donation optiion.

Actually it does appear that one can set items to an FT at a field item level within price sets, and have it appear on receipts, but reports assign one of the FTs to each contribution on some basis or another

Could we get some kind of indication if item level FTs are still planned, possibly even an ETA?

Tim - 4.3 does indeed include this functionality. As you've noted, you can set different financial types (FTs) for each field and each option in a price set. The reporting however is a bit "behind" in that the regular contribution types only reflect the financial type cached in the contribution record. However, the Bookkeeping Transactions report does include FTs at the line-item level, and the Accounting Batches export will definitely include the granular details.

Lola from Freeform is also working on improving line-item level reporting for events: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-12529

Hopefully someone will step up and spec / implement improvements to optionally display line-item details and totals for key contribution reports for 4.4 or 4.5.

Wow that's great Dave- still have to run some more tests but it sounds like just what we were hoping for.
