Bug? Report Filter doesn't respect custom profile field date filter

We have a report that includes a filter on a group and on a date field from a custom profile.

Irrespective of what I select to filter on date, it a appears that dates are ignored.

I've created a quick screen movie to show the issue:

Hopefully someone can help identify whether this is a bug in civiCRM 4.3.4 (we're running Joomla 2.5.11 although that wouldn't be related to this issue).
