Recording activity in a mobile app using QR codes
June 25, 2013, 07:47:23 pm
Hi there!

I'm new to CiviCRM, but I'm looking into building a mobile app which would record my user's activity.

My database is a loyalty programme, which I want to base around a mobile phone app.  I want to record data like who used theirdiscount where, by using QR codes with a scanner built into the app.

For example;
A customer visits a supplier that offers my discount
Customer presents their app at payment, which shows supplier they qualify for discount.
Supplier asks the customer to scan a unique QR code (One per supplier) with a QR scanner built into my app.
CiviCRM database is updated - records that this customer has used their app at this supplier - either adds tags or contributions.

Still at the ideas stage but keen to see if anyone has tried something like this with CiviCRM before!

Thanks for reading!
Mike

Take a look at the civimobile extension

http://civicrm.org/extensions/civimobile

It is a server-side mobile interface. There is an older app if you google civimobile but you would want to focus only on the key management from the older app & not use the api calls
