Is there a way to make a membership only available to users with a certain role or a certain membership using Drupal? I imagine I could do a rule that examines a user on drupal initialization for a role and then redirect them to another page if they don't have it when they try to hit up the membership's contribution page, but seems like there might be a less "hacky" way.

I'm thinking of using a membership type for a certification since this certification doesn't have to be tied to an event and also costs money.

What about the CiviCRM setting:“CiviContribute: make online contributions”? If this is unchecked for some roles, these users can’t access the membership sign-up page. It only doesn’t help if you want to allow these people other contributions, but only not allow them to sign up for a membership.

The setting “CiviMember: access CiviMember”? doens’t seem to have an effect on this: A user whose roles don’t allow this, still can call the membership sign-up page if online contributions are allowed for that role.
