foo.com vs. www.foo.com
June 26, 2013, 01:10:03 pm
I'm encountering an issue where CiviCRM requests whose link is generated based on the Base URL in "Settings - Cleanup Caches and Update Paths" result in an "Access Denied" error if the referring URL is different. For example, if I go to foo.com and log in and start working with Civi, if the Base URL value is "www.foo.com" it throws an access error when I click on links in the Civi backend. I would like to be able to access the site with or without the www. and have Civi links work reliably.

Should I:

- edit civicrm.settings.php such that the Base URL value is populated by a $_SERVER var reference
- alter our DNS settings somehow to force all requests to foo.com/* to go to www.foo.com/* and then set a static value of "www.foo.com" for the Base URL?
- do something else I have not thought of?

Many thanks to the Civi support community for all your help!

I think either of your first two solutions will work.
