Importing data to custom fields not updating
June 28, 2013, 05:02:44 pm
Hey guys,

Just a quick question, I have civicrm custom fields attached to contacts. When adding new users, we import via CSV for all fields (both default contact and custom fields) and records are created normally.

I've recently had a need to update a particular custom field (which happens to be a date) for all records, so I've been doing testing but for some reason the date field just isn't updating (details below)

CSV file: contains headers for all fields (default and custom).
contains just one record, for testing purposes.
the record (row) contains ONLY the email of the test user (for matching purposes) and the new date (mm/dd/yyyy) in the column matching the field to be overwritten

Import settings
Contact type: individual (with a subtype)
Duplicate settings: Update
Date format: mm/dd/yyyy
Load field mapping: just a mapping I created for this purpose that ignores every field except the particular date field and the email (set to match contact)

The import process appears to work, it identifies that 1 contact was modified/updated and no new contact was created. but when I view the contact the date field is still the same (tried running cron, flushing cache, etc)

To test my data, I tried running it as a "No Duplicate Checking" and it added a new contact with the email and date (and everything else blank) as expected - so the CSV setup appears to be correct

Anything I've missed?

Maybe I missed it but is find and merge contacts set to match the email and are these identical?

Thanks for your update on this - it was actually my own silly fault. The email I was matching to ended in .net.au and my test email (that I was trying to match) ended in .com.au! DOH!
