Where are Proximity Search files?
June 29, 2013, 07:05:44 am
Hi, I'm pretty sure I must be missing something obvious, so please excuse my ignorance.

I want to make some minor changes to the text and layout of the proximity search screen (beyond what css can do) and so am looking for the correct .tpl files to change.

The source code doesn't mention the files called, so I've tried changing the following files, without results. These paths are relative to my Drupal installation:
/sites/all/modules/civicrm/templates/CRM/Contact/Form/Search/Custom/Proximity.tpl
/sites/all/modules/civicrm/templates/CRM/Contact/Form/Task/ProximityCommon.tpl

I've looked on the forums and in my folders for other .tpl files that might be involved without success.

I'm aware that if I want my changes to persist after upgrades I should make a custom templates folder (/civicrm/admin/setting/path?reset=1) and then copy these files into it with paths like:
/sites/default/files/civicrm/customtemplates/CRM/Contact/Form/Search/Custom/Proximity.tpl

I've also tried clearing Drupal's cache just in case, but that didn't seem to make a difference.

Thanks for your help.

Assuming you're referring the the Proximity Search linked under Search > Custom Searches ...

For that search, the file which controls layout is definitely CRM/Contact/Form/Search/Custom/Proximity.tpl

If changing that file isn't changing the rendered page, a few thoughts:
- the codebase which your site is pointing to is in a different directory ?? check for other instances of that file on your server
- you're changing the copy in your custom templates folder - and the path isn't configured correctly

.. and just had another thought - not 100% sure that the custom templates folder mechanism works for custom searches as they are handled a bit differently from core files. You might need to go the route of creating a new extension which defines your own version of the custom search ???

Thanks, that's really helpful.

Will investigate and get back if I have any further questions.
