Relationship start end dates pre-1993?

When trying to add start/end dates to a relationship, it seems I can't use dates before 1 Jan 1993 (or after 31 Dec 2033). So far I've been adding these dates in the "notes" field on the relationship. The use of 1993 and 2033 makes me think it's a question of "20 years before/after present" rather than an arbitrary cut-off. It seems odd to have something like this, when date of birth can be any date back to 1913 (which I'm guessing is "100 years before present").

Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? I can't find anything so far on the forum or in the book.

Civi: 4.3.4
CMS: Drupal 7

I am having the same problem in the custom date fields I created to capture dates sometimes 20-30 years in the past.  I have attached a picture of what it shows.  Frankly I would like to be able to enter any date.  It almost looks like the error is tied to what the calendar can support.

try the adv settings under Admin > Localisation > Date Formats eg http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/setting/preferences/date?reset=1

Thanks but there is no where to control the date that CiviCRM constrains the field to.  My problem is not with the format rather it is that CiviCRM won't allow me to enter any data prior to what the calendar shows.  It looks like someone coded the field to constrain.  This did not happen before, I cannot pinpoint a release when this started but we have a lot of dates in the systme from the 60's and 70's.  Any help always appreciated.

My apologies, I found it.  Maybe I didn't notice it when I created the fields but in the custom data configuration you can set how many years prior to todays date the field can be.  The default must be 2004.

yep you can set the range of years pre/post in the custom field - but re the original post, it was about Relationships start/end dates
