Problem while installing civicrm1.8 on drupal 5.7

I have installed drupal 5.7 on my machine and i am configuring it for civicrm 1.8, i have done all possible settings. now the links of civicrm are visible but on clicking them i get an error sayin

Call to undefined function smarty_modifier_truncate() in /var/www/drupal-5.2/files/civicrm/templates_c/en_US/%%DF/DF1/DF14E7A2%%index.tpl.php on line 10

can some please help me with this

PS civicrm 2.0 works fine with the same version of Drupal

Can you ensure that you have truncated the session table and deleted the templates_c directory and try again.

Yes sir I have tried these options already.. but still this error persist the way it is..
I have also tried options such as clearing cookies but to no use..Please can you suggest some other options
