How does one add anniversaries?
July 10, 2013, 01:10:38 pm
I am wondering how one creates an anniversary in CiviCRM? Birthdays have a dedicated field, but I don't see such a field for anniversaries?

Hi Dave,

You could add a custom date field via Administer menu -> Customize Data and Screens -> Custom Fields.  If you need more help, the documentation for that is here: http://book.civicrm.org/user/current/organising-your-data/custom-fields/

Okay, so when I create a spouse relationship between a husband and wife contact record in CiviCRM that doesn't automatically store an anniversary somewhere? I'm wondering particularly b/c I just installed this:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC43/Upcoming+Birthday+and+Anniversary+searches
And the birthdays report just works and it doesn't say anything about creating custom fields to get anniversaries to work.
Thanks,
Dave

You do not need a custom field for anniversaries. In CRM terms, a marriage is a type of relationship, and every relationship has a start date.

Conversely every relationship has an end date, so you could use this to keep track of separated couples (or in most cases when you don't know the exact date of separation, just set the relationship to inactive).
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.
