Petition Profile ignores the advanced settings of the Petition Contact Profile

Hi - When setting up a petition, one uses a contact profile with at least the email address of the contact.  Our users have created some contact profiles that specify which group to add the new contacts into when the profile is used.  However, this group is not used. when the profile is used on a petition. Instead all petition sign ups are going into a separate group called Petition Contacts.  Unless my memory is fooling me, as I recall, CiviCRM used to put it in the group specified in the profile advanced settings.

What's the reasoning behind this design? I think it would be better to support the profile's group specification.

I'm not sure the reasoning, or indeed where to set it in the UI, but I am pretty sure that if you look in your civicrm_setting table you will find a place to change it

I think my reasoning was we needed a group (was needed to generate the checksum if my memory serves me right), and the profile used was not necessarily having one.

Now that you ask the question, I think we could/should have used the group in the profile indeed if it's existing.

Could you write a patch to improve?

Thanks for the responses.  I'm definitely not the patcher on the PowerBase team,  but I'll check with the team to see if we can do it.
