Froming relationships using profiles...?

I'd like to be able to create relationships with profiles (so they can be created on event registration/user signup.

This is for registering children for events atm, it means that their parents could register them, and provide details of their school and doctors (which we need)

Is there any way to do this? I found this thread http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,7176.0.html but it's old, so I was wondering if the state of play was the same.

The coding is beyond me atm (get that "don't know where to start" feeling), although I'll get there at some point - just wondered if that was the only way...?

I don't think there's anything new here. CiviEvent was never designed to allow parents to register children. It's a common enough use-case but so far no one has stepped up to fund that feature.
In Drupal land the webform-civi integration offers a robust solution, but I see you are on WP.
