CiviMail stuck in "running" state - with a twist
July 31, 2013, 02:56:56 pm
Hello, all!

My problem is very similar to one in a previous unresolved thread: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,24641.0.html, however mine has a slightly different twist.

Like in the above thread, when a scheduled mailing gets run by cron, the status changes to "running", but never finishes. The report looks like

Quote
Delivery Summary
Intended Recipients   4   ReportAdvanced Search
Successful Deliveries   0 (0.00%)   ReportAdvanced Search
Tracked Opens   0   ReportAdvanced Search
Click-throughs   0   ReportAdvanced Search

That is the correct number of recipients for my very small test group. However, when I click on the "Intended Recipients" link in the Delivery Summary, I get the message "There are currently no Intended Recipients." (?!?)

To top it off, if I click on any of the "View Job Log" links in Administer > System Settings > Scheduled Jobs I get a White Screen of Death.

This is happening on a production site, so I can't turn on full debugging without taking the site offline. I have turned on "Enable Drupal Watchdog Logging", but I don't see anything of interest (I only see some debug messages from an CiviEvent page, but that's probably unrelated).

Like in the original thread above, everything works fine if I click "Execute Now" on the "Send Scheduled Mailings" job in Administer > System Settings > Scheduled Jobs. This works both on newly-scheduled mailings that haven't been touched by cron yet, as well as jobs that are stuck in "Running" mode.

I'm running Civi 4.3.3 on Drupal 7.20, and mass mailings using cron were working fine prior to upgrading Civi from 4.2.8

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!!!

Yes, administrator has all CiviCRM privileges. There were some that were unchecked (create manual batch, edit own manual batches, etc.), but I explicitly allowed those and the behavior is the same.

I assume that's what you mean? There is no other "cron user" (as far as I understand it), as this site is on shared hosting (civihosting.com).

Refer to this guide http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviMail+Installation for setting up CiviMail.
