best way to upgrade civicrm from joomla 1.5 to 2.5 or 3.0

May be anyone can help me here.   ???

What would be the easiest way to export all the data from an old civicrm database running on joomla 1.5 and get the database into a joomla 2.5 or 3.0 site?

Is there a way to export all data into a .xls file and later import it in the new civicrm on the new joomla installation?   ::)

And one other question:

Is there a civicrm version for joomla 3.0?    :o

a. Civi v4.3 works with Joomla! 3.0 (and 3.1 i think)

b. You'll need to do regular civicrm upgrades from your current version to 4.3. You cannot do an export/import (the schema has changed)

Yes. What lobo meant is that you can't do an SQL dump but you can export most data into CSV files (similar to XLS and Excel can open a CSV file) and then import those again. But you can not transfer all of your data this way, so if there is data you can't get out into a CSV, then you will need to upgrade.

Thanks Hershel & Donald,   :)

Just got back and dive into this again.

The thing is that I build a new website on Joomla 3.1. The old website with CIVI is Joomla 1.6 and CIVI 4.0.7.

What would be the best way then?  ???   I don't think it makes sense to upgrade to the latest CIVI first?

What would be the best way? Do this via a XLS and Excel import export? Or is there another way? Anyone experience with this?  ::)

I would recommend you migrate your CiviCRM to the new Joomla site and then upgrade the CiviCRM.
