No data is displayed when I call up a report/search

I've run into a problem with a Civicrm install (4.1.6) on Drupal 7 where report data is not displayed - just the report title. This includes the configuration checklist. When I try to do a search, all that displays is a thin brown horizontal stripe - none of the fields I would use to do the search. Participant lists for events, etc. work fine, but I can't figure out the report issue. I am unable to upgrade to a newer version of Civicrm because the PHP/SWL configuration on my host doesn't support it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have similar installations that are presently working fine, so I'm stuck here

THanks - I'll give it a try, though my problem isn't related to cron jobs or email....
