Can not edit civicrm - Help
August 09, 2013, 08:52:02 pm
Hi,

Not sure what happened,  I can see the Civicrm dashboard - I am logged in through my wordpress admin page, but I am unable to edit any content. For example profiles, to turn off the registration process! I keep getting redirected to the WP log in page.

I am stumped. Do I have to reload civi?

Are you perhaps jumping from www.mysite.com to mysite.com or vice versa, i.e. adding or dropping the WWW?

Yes, I believe I am having name pointing issues.

All Hosted files are wordpress and Civicrm are under one name. www.example.com
my domain was purchased and is pointed to website. www.purchasedname.com
The browser is showing www.example.com

I switched under general settings the Wordpress address URL and Site address URL so the browser showed the purchased domain and this locked me out of civicrm.

I changed the WP general settings back to www.example.com and everything seems to be working fine.

I am back to the original problem. I want the browser to show www.purchasedname.com and not www.example.com

So the question is -

change civi directory or resource URL's to www.purchasedname.com. This does not seem right.
or I was reading that I may have to change domain name in wp codex manually http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL
which I am rather petrified to do. Will this lock me out of civicrm again?

I am so upset because I was under the impression that once I bought the domain name the hosting company would make this smooth sailing for me. I wanted to avoid this issue by having everything named the same.

I appreciate the input and direction. Thank you.

To change the domain name for CiviCRM, you must edit the civicrm.settings.php file which is in the directory

wp-content/plugins/civicrm/

You must find the line there like this:

define( 'CIVICRM_UF_BASEURL'      , 'http://example.com/' );

and change the domain name to what you want.

Then I think you already know how to change the domain name within WordPress.

Thanks. Can this be done through wordpress - edit plugins? Or do I have to find the files at the hosting site and edit with filezilla?

Thank you

This can not be done through WordPress. Either Filezilla or an online File Manager if your host provides one.
