Online 'Household' Registration
August 14, 2013, 01:53:38 pm
Many times over the years I have come and gone from CiviCRM without investing the time to see if my needs can be met with this great solution.  **Fingers crossed** Hopefully that ends today!

I am a technical user and will enjoy working to get a solution together, but I want to know if it will be possible from the outset.

Essentially I am the membership administrator for a youth club and we collect information on the families that are involved with us.  Our primary focus is the youth membership but we keep up to date with the adults in the family too.

From a workflow perspective I would like to be able to allow online family registration / membership as follows:

  • Adult registers the family
  • Adult then registers themself and their partner as the 'Head of Household' and ultimately 'Parent(s)' of any Youth
  • Adult then registers any other adults in the household (i.e. a non parent guardian) - this would be nice... not necessary!
  • Adult then registers as many children as our members and enters the necessary details - they are automatically set as members of the household and children of the parent(s)

Ideally I would like to achieve this through one dynamic form.  Relationships would essentially be automatic. Membership dues would be rule based, primarily on the number of youths in the family.

Family/Household would get one wordpress log in to keep info up to date etc.  Login shows read/write details for all members of that household.

That is the tricky stuff! Everything else I know CiviCRM will be able to handle with spades to spare!

I am not looking for step by step instructions - just a 'yes I think that is possible' or a 'no way'!  Equally if the registration form isn't a runner but the system could handle it that would be a huge start!

Of course any step by step instructions would be great!! :D But really looking forward to researching the volumes of info already there in the community about each piece in isolation as long as the overall can be achieved.

Thanks

The new version of CiviCRM Webform Integration for Drupal can do exactly that - everything you specified. If you are able to do this project in Drupal, you'll be all set.

Thanks very much for the quick reply!!  :)

I was toying with the idea of separating Civi from our core site and putting it on Drupal as it does seem to be more suited to it.  I will begin looking at that immediately!

Thanks.

Well today's your lucky day, we've just released 4.4.alpha1 so you can start working with the new features right away. To use the new webform payments feature just install:
  • The latest CiviCRM 4.4 release
  • The latest version of Webform 4
  • The latest Webform CiviCRM Integration 4 -dev
This will let you start building your site. They'll all have stable releases by the time you're ready to launch if not before.

BTW as I mentioned in the blog article, testing really helps. So please post back here or in the release testing forum to let us know how it goes.
