LaTeX support on CiviCRM
August 19, 2013, 09:34:34 am
Hi There,

here at the FSF we are concern about high quality printed thank-you
letters so we choose LaTeX as our backend. That means we had to adapt a
little to actually work.

I want to attach a ~20k .tgz but the only Allowed file types are gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png, txt, csv. How do you usually share code here on the forum?

But I find the following issues:
 - This is far from optimal
 - has known bugs that doesn't manage the paper side yet
 - the template system used, strips out backslashes, very needed in
LaTeX, So I had to comment out stuff in Token.php . This affects many
other things. Could you review the code on that and see if there is a
prediction on possible caveats
 - I had to harcoded the item on Task.php . Is that ok?
 - I'm assuming there is an external script to do the processing. Maybe
there should be a configuration for this? something more generic than
mkhtmlpdf

Please advice what is the proper way to add this feature to civicrm. I'm
willing to work until it's included in upstream release.

Thanks,
Nico

Hershel

The correct place to submit code for an improvement to CiviCRM would be via the Issue Tracker (link at the top of this page) but perhaps you should wait until someone from the team responds here as to whether or not there is sufficient interest in this feature and sufficient energy to maintain it on an on-going basis, to include it.

Another good way to share code is to put it on github & link to it

Hey, does this functionality mean a replacement for the pdf-engine, that creates letters based on html?

This would be nice - having an alternative better suited for high quality output.
