Hi civi friends

Would it be possible to pull out a report of
1) list of all Groups,
2) with amount of contacts in each

A client needs to regularly see how many sign-ups there are of various interest areas and newsletters to guage popularity

Or is reports not the best way to approach this?

Happy to attempt to create a report, but not that certain how to go about it -
when I click +new report
it takes me to -  create a new report form template
but there is no template that reports on groups, so i cant get started -

I assume i would have to write the select sql from scratch??

Alternatively - would it be a good idea to try to add a column to the Manage Groups page?
Is that something easily done?

i have a view that looks at the amount of people within specific groups that are in each county in the state. You have to set the aggregation settings to group results together or count. It just takes a little bit of time trying different settings under fields within your view.

and go to /civicrm/dataviz/groupbarchart you should like what you see. If you don't you can improve the sql query (PR welcome)
