Accessing data from either a mail token or a custom table in a profile
August 27, 2013, 11:34:34 am
Is there a way, without a bunch of coding, to have a profile display data from a custom table/view or from one of the custom tokens one creates with hooks for email smarty stuff?

We have something we call affiliation which is how the person is associated with us.  It's things like undergrad, grad, faculty, local, friend of.  We've used membership to keep these, which works well for undergrads who graduate and become alumns.  When we first enter them we set the end dates and start dates and don't have to bother with it again (well, unless they drop out).

So I'd like to display their affiliation on a profile I will send them a link to so they can update addresses, email, phone, etc.  I could just display membership but it's too complicated to expose all the dates stuff.   Plus I'm not sure I could display more than one (some people are alumns and say faculty members).  Also, I think there is some problem with displaying membership and the other data on the same profile.

I've created a view which gives me one line for each person with a concatenated list of their active memberships.  I've used this for smarty mail tokens and internal reports.   I'd love to display this on a profile.
