CiviMember Role Sync plugin changes all Wordpress user roles to "none"
August 28, 2013, 12:57:03 pm
We have two membership types that correspond with two custom Wordpress user roles. When I activate and manually run the CiviMember Role Sync Plugin, all of the WP user roles for all of the 600+ users/members get reset to a user role of "none" ("no role for this site"), effectively removing _all_ of the  privileges assigned to those users. I've had to reset all of these manually in Wordpress (not fun).

I've successfully installed CiviMember Role Sync Plugin on a dev site with the same configuration of CiviCRM and other Wordpress plugins, and all seems to work well -- upgraded memberships cause upgraded WordPress roles and vice versa.

So, at the moment, we cannot assign any content access privileges or discounts based on membership type.

I am really tearing my hair out over this one...  I could really use some clues here....   would be grateful for _any_ direction someone could offer.  Thank you!!

Hi Jag -- Thanks for the reply!  Yes.  The only difference between my dev version that worked, and the live version that failed was that the live version used custom WP roles ("paid member," "free member,"), rather than the default WP roles of "contributor" and "author."  I ran into the same problem on the dev server initially, but I was using a role manager plugin to create the custom WP roles.  When I disabled and uninstalled the role manager plugin I used to create the custom roles, the problem went away.  The live version still has the custom roles in the database, but the all of the role manager plugin files have been deleted.
