Joomla! 3 event info page is blank

Using civicrm 4.3.4 joomla!3, I added a menu item for a specific event and for the events listing. Both of these yield a blank page. The user has viewing rights through public group.

can u check your apache logs and see what the error is

Note that civi is minimally compatible with joomla 3. Check:

No errors in the log.

I'm downgrading to 2.5.
