Outbound Mail failure

A new installation of Civi 4.1.5 on a Drupal 6 is having problems. This is in a multisite installation which shares codebase but not databases between sites. The install is at the top level of the sites (i.e., not a sub-site).

First is an inability to send Outbound Mail. The settings are using the default "mail," which works on other installations. I get an unrecoverable error. Here is the backtrace:

Using "mail()" for other installs on the exact same codebase works? And fails just for this one install? That's odd.
