CiviCrm for internal use only: Provide access to CiviCrm only on Wordpress?
September 11, 2013, 07:28:20 pm
Hello forum members,

Apologies in advance as I'm new to both Wordpress and CiviCrm and not sure how to pose this question. I am trying to set up a demo version for my colleagues. How do I create a CiviCrm login page without logging in to the Wordpress administration? I would like my colleagues to have access to everything in CiviCrm only without seeing all the Wordpress administrative menus like pages, posts and comments etc. Is there a way to access CiviCrm directly?

Thank you for your time and patience.

Regards
Grant.

This seems more like a WP question and you might have better luck in the WP support forums (which are quite good from what i've seen / heard)

basically you want your users to be redirected to the CiviCRM dashboard when they login into the backend. There might be a wp-plugin for that

Thanks very much Lobo.

I have attached a link (albeit a Drupal) one to show you what I want to achieve in Wordpress: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/

How would I create this login screen without going through wp-admin?

When you enter the demo site, the navigation pane on the left hand side only contains CiviCrm.

Thanks
Grant.

Grant,

The following steps should provide what you want. You should install the Members plugin so you can create custom roles. It is not necessary but it makes it cleaner.

-Create a custom role in WordPress for your CiviCRM users and give it access_civicrm permissions
-Create your users with this role.
-In the CiviCRM Administrative Console select access control under users and permissions.
-Click on the WordPress Access Control.
-You will see a grid where you can assign Civi Access to specific roles. Check the permissions these users should have.

You may have to go back and forth between the WordPress roles & the WordPress ACL in CiviCRM to get it just the way you want it.

I use a plugin called Peter's Login Redirect to customize the landing page after login so users can be directed directly to CiviCRM. You can even send them to a specific section such as reports or events.

Hope this helps,

BT
