CiviMail account setup question; also no civicrm in menu
September 13, 2013, 06:35:02 pm
I'm setting up CiviCRM in WP on my box for demo and experimental purposes.

According to the instructions, once I go through the config checklist I should see a civicrm option in the menu. I've got Twenty Twelve as my theme and there is no civicrm element in the menu. Nor do I find any instructions for adding it.

Also, I'm getting prompted to create the default civimail address. I set up a gmail account per the manual and tested that it can handle sub-addresses. But when I go to fill in the form, I'm confused by some of the items.
--The manual says, "Specify the mail server, username, and password you used when creating the account." But I don't know what this is referring to. I created the account at my Google account page. What do I put here?

Regarding the menu: I think I was assuming the dashboard was something different from what I was manipulating as the admin. But it seems that when i log in as admin and click CiviCRM in the left-hand col that iis the dashboard. And more mundane users would see the dashboard in a different setting? I need to experiment with that--I've never logged into a WP site as anything but the administrator.

As for the default mail address, I just left those fields I didn't understand blank. Since I'm not using outgoing mail at this point that's probably ok--I won't be getting any replies anyway.

Thanks.

I am fighting with the same thing. I know these settings are probably obvious to most so if you find an answer please let me know.
