Online Documentation Progress
April 17, 2007, 07:11:30 am
I am excited to be working on the online documentation for CiviCRM. As far as I know this is one of the only nonprofit open source projects to have invested in documentation. While putting complicated concepts into simple terms can be challenging, it is great to be working with the fantastic team behind CiviCRM.

The online documentation continues to be built. The Administrators Guide is complete as of April, 2007 and as of May, 2007 the User's Guide is being worked on.

I encourage all users to contribute examples and comments to the documentation.

More updates as progress warrants.

Hi John,

I would like to help with the documentation.  I am setting up CCRM for a new client including writing some end user documentation for them.  I would be happy to generalize and contribute it back to the main online documentation.  Do you have any guidelines or should I be so bold as to actually edit the wiki with my new documentation?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Admin documentation is a huge help, and I love that I can get an offline version now.  Fantastic!

Thanks,

Robin

Hi Robin - I'm answering on behalf of John as he's "on assignment" training and speaking in Australia this month. Help with the documentation is welcome. If you are documentation End User functions which John hasn't covered yet (the End-user section is not due for completion until next month) - then I would email an "outline" of functions you would propose covering - and perhaps a sample.

For sections that are "complete" (at this point, the Install and Administer top-level sections) - we welcome folks (thoughtfully) editing the wiki directly to correct things, add missing points or clarify existing text.

Hi John.  I'm working with the EJUSA project and I have completed a large amount of documentation that was missing.  I think we should coordinate, since my work might save you some time.  Specifically I have completed these sections (and added more details and made changes elsewhere), though there are obviously some parts related specifically to our organization:

Relationships
Activities
Groups
Contact Notes
Taking Action on Search Results

Will there ever be any step-by step setup (post installation) documentation for CiviCRM?    I just feel as if there is no way I'll figure this out just hunting and pecking through forums and the wiki.

This is the first real kink in my road since I began using Joomla to build a website for the non-profit organization I work with.   I've seen a posting like this here somewhere, asking for step 1, step 2, etc when starting to set up CiviCRM (can't find it in the forums anymore).  Replies to him said it was in the works; but his posting was over a year ago. Even this thread is months old....

We are a very small organization, CiviCRM looks to be exactly what we need to keep track of things; but our budget is too low to hire/pay someone to consult us on it.   I'm no "dummy"; but I feel like one right now as I am having trouble getting past square one of setting up CRM.

HELP?!?!?!

does this help: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/5.+Getting+Started

There are screencasts and sample data that you can use. What other specific information would be useful?
