Custom field created of type "link" but link isn't active when viewing profile

We are having some issues with one website running civicrm where a custom link field we have created to display an external url isn't active (just shows the url without a link).  I have attached 2 screenshots - one from the problem website, one from a working website (we have several website sharing the same civi database.
