What might cause Profile fields from Contact grouping to not be populated?

I'm have several profiles that mix fields from Individual and Contact.  At some point in upgrading this specific CiviCRM configuration when filling out forms Individual fields are populated, but the Contact fields are not.  Any suggestions to fix this?

The specific fields used in the profile don't matter nor does how the form is loaded.  Adding the profile to the Drupal User creation process has the same result.  Individual fields work.  Contact fields don't.

The screenshots are from the simplest possible form where first and last name are from Individual and email is from Contact.

I didn't solve this, but I found a work around.  It wasn't ALL fields from the Contact group.  It was only when the fields were configured for Primary over Home, Work, etc.  Fields from the Contact group that don't have that option work fine and changing Primary -> Home or Work solves that problem for the other fields.

Still not sure what happened that would have caused Primary to stop working.

Recently upgraded from 4.2.7 -> 4.3.5.  Unclear if the upgrade caused the problem or they only noticed it after the upgrade.

I think there is an open issue if u mix primary fields with location specific fields (i.e. the query gets confused and messes up)

the poor solution / work-around is to only use primary OR location specific. Not a combination of both

I'm having this issue with a profile.

I have Individual and Contact fields (Name, Address, Gender, DOB, email, & phone number). I initially set them all up for the Home location and then tested with me being logged in. None of the fields were autofilled and I did check to ensure that I had a Home location address in my contact record. So I thought maybe it was an issue with no using primary so I changed all the Contact fields to the primary Location and tested again adn it's still not pre-filling the fields.

I have 2 custom fields on the form that are used for the Individual.  I even filled out the profile and submitted it and then went back and checked it again and it still doesn't pre-fill.

I'm running Civi 4.4.4 planning to update to 4.4.5 tonight though.
