Import or Register (assign) a Group as Participants in an Event

I have a group of volunteers, in a CiviCRM Group, who help with an event that happens every week.  They don't all come each week.  I want to record which ones did come, along the line of recording attendees who show up at an event.  I'd like to be able to assign or add the whole Group as Participants, Registrants is OK because the Event doesn't have actual Registrants, the same effect as importing, but from an existing Group.

Exporting and Importing is possible, except that the Status ID and Event ID have to be added to the exported CSV file, before it can be imported, something that the administrator of the event would not be able to do.

I'm using CiviCRM 3.4

To answer my own question:
Contacts > Manage Groups > In the row for the Group click "Contacts"
In "Select record" choose "All"
In the "- actions -" dropdown choose "Add to Event"
...
No trouble with the rest.  They can be called "Volunteers" but have their status changed to "Attended" in Events > Manage
