Found this thread http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=23467.0

He solved the problem by reverting to php 5.2.17 from 5.3.10

I'm stuck with php 5.3.15

Any ideas?

You might want to check and see when we started supporting php 5.3. That might be a critical date / release to see what version will work with php 5.3

Here's what works. I setup a local WAMP using php 5.2.17. Starting with a civicrm 4.0.5 database, I did upgrades in the following order;

4.0.5 -> 4.0.7
4.0.7 -> 4.0.8
4.0.8 -> 4.1.0 must be using php 5.2.x for this step
4.1.0 -> 4.2.0
4.2.0 -> 4.2.9 must switch to php 5.3.x for this step
4.2.9 -> 4.3.5

Then upload the 4.3.5 database to the webserver
