Donor Premiums
September 22, 2013, 03:28:14 pm
Hello, I'm evaluating CiviCRM and wonder if there is a way to do more advanced configuration of premiums in a few ways...
I would like to allow donors to choose their own donation level, and then be offered a premium of equivalent dollar amount to use for future services. Example: Donor A decides to contribute $230.  They should then be credited with $230 to use for our products, goods, services. If there is no direct method to achieve this perhaps a workaround could be accomplished with 'coupons', if there is a way to offer coupons through CiviCRM.
Optionally, we could work with predetermined donation amounts and equivalent premiums credit... but letting the donor choose would be so much better.

I've looked around through the docs and searched the forums, but have yet to discover any answers - so I'm hoping someone here will be able to point me in teh right direction, or perhaps have custom coding ideas.

Thanks!

a few questions and answers:

1. How do they buy the future services?

2. Seems like you can do this fairly easily as a post process hook on contributions which is tied to the payment system for the above services processor

1.)
Spot on question... Optimally, stuff can be purchased either online, or though a sales-person, or at a location.

2.)
The post-process hook sounds interesting, but I wouldn't have the first clue on how to proceed....

Otherwise, My first thoughts are to simply use a separate accounting system to track how much credit is available to each donor.  Which means manual transposition, which is a pain and subject to error.  A coupon system or discount code might be much nicer. Did I just accidentally answer my question ?

You might want to read the developer book @ http://book.civicrm.org/ to read up on hooks and how to do things like automatically create a coupon / discount at the end of every contribution

 :-\
Well, I've done a bunch of reading, but I can't seem to locate anything directly addressing creation of coupons or discounts - at least not in the manner I had envisioned.  Unfortunately I am not going to be able to personally deal with creating customizations on the admin level of hooks and such which seems needed. I have learned a lot though, and feel perhaps I will be able to use Drupal/CiviCRM/Ubercart to at least begin something.  Maybe some day we'll have a little extra money and hire a developer...
