An activity for merged contacts?
September 23, 2013, 12:06:33 am
For various reasons I would like to have an activity automatically created for the remaining contact record when two records are merged.

Ideally the type would be Merged contact and the subject line would contain the contact Id for the record that is no more.

Does that seem feasible?

You should be able to do this via a postProcess hook on merge

FWIW - many of the competing CRMs I've worked with do this, or offer a checkbox to create an activity on merge.

It's also very common to see a checkbox to create an activity on export - presumably so there's a record of having included someone in an export that served as a data source for a mass mailing.

Neither of these would be hard to write with hooks as an extension, but maybe this functionality should be considered for core?
