I imported a bunch of contacts into my own setup and noticed that if I went to Search builder I could not successfully search by current employer.  It appears to be a bug.  I logged into the demo site on civicrm.org (wordpress version) and tested it and discovered the same failure.  You can try it out too.

Add a new individual.  Put aabbccdd as the Current Employer.

Then go to Search Builder and search for an individual with "aabbccdd" as the current employer. Nothing comes up.  Try searching for "college agricultural network" (one group already in the system) as the current employer, and nothing comes up.

Any ideas anyone?

I've got 15000 new contacts into my own install of civicrm and I'd hate to abandon just because of this bug.

seems like a bug in 4.3 and later (and maybe even prior)

Maybe you can set up a bounty for this at: https://www.bountysource.com/ and see if we get any folks willing to look and potentially submit a patch for this

I suspect its a 2-5 hour project at the max (and this should include a unit test if submitted back to core)

Great to see some movement on this.  Wow, I caught my first bug!  BountySource.com is great. I never knew about it, but I cant yet invest personally.  This search options a big need, but I can wait a little.

curious as to what system would you switch to if you did abandon using civicrm?
