Filemaker to CiviCRM - CiviCRM & E-commerce Sync
April 08, 2008, 09:23:23 am
Newbie here:

Whether it be a donation, event registration, or a shopping cart purchase, I am looking to have global user management/CRM across my Joomla 1.5 site.  I know CiviCRM is not compatible with Joomla 1.5 yet, however, I have questions regarding using CiviCRM as a stand alone in the meantime.

I am currently using Filemaker 5 for my user database. How difficult would it be to import to CiviCRM via CSV file.  We just have normal data; name, address, a few sets of check boxes, solicit (yes/no), member (yes/no), notes etc.

1. I also want to make it so that when someone makes a purchase or donation that that activity is recorded on their profile.
2. If someone is making a purchases and is a member, I need a way to apply discounts to that purchase during check out.

I realize some of this will require custom work, just seeing if anyone has done this, how difficult, etc, any input is appreciated.

We imported about 800 records from FileMaker and it wasn't too hard.  Tips that I remember:

CiviCRM seemed to choke on batches larger than 100 records
You can use FileMaker to force date formatting with leading zeros that CiviCRM wants to see.

Do you have households and individuals or just one kind of contact?

CiviContribute allows you to track online and offline donations - and associates them w/ contact record for the donor. It also allows you to offer premiums (thank-you gifts).

For "purchases" - folks at Dharmatech.org are developing an Ubercart - CiviCRM integration module, but I'm pretty sure it's Drupal-specific. Not sure what integrated eCommerce packages are available for Joomla  - or whether anyone was done integration for them w/ CiviCRM.

Thanks.  I have two types of contacts.  Organizations and individuals. As far as the shopping cart, I guess that will require some custom work.

Are there relationships between the two that you need to preserve?  If so, when you export the individuals to CSV from FileMaker then include the name of the related organization for each individual in the export.  If you then import your Organizations first to CiviCRM, you can then establish these relationships in the import process using that name field.

This is almost a year into this thread, but FileMaker 10 has the ability to work with MySQL databases, so in theory everything could synced...

Has anyone out there tried syncing Filemaker 10 (or higher) with CiviCRM's MySQL database? I'm working with a non-profit who is currently using Filemaker Pro and this prospect is very attractive to us.

No experience of syncing, I do have experience with creating a conversion of rather inconsistent data from FileMaker to CiviCRM, example code can be found here:

I'm also very interested in syncing CiviCRM with FileMaker Pro 10. Please let me know if anyone has implemented this.  Thanks!
