We're currently using 4.3.6  In previous versions in Manage Groups there was a listing of the alphabet across the top and you could use this to go straight to groups starting with a particular letter. Now groups are shown in their hierarchy. Is it possible for me to reinstate the alphabetical listing as we have hundreds of groups and that made it really easy to find them?

Also, if you search for all groups with North East in their title, go into a particular group's contacts and then back page, it takes you to the main Manage Groups page rather than back to the search results you've just generated. Is it possible to get straight back to the search result of groups rather than having to do the same search over again?

Ok. Thanks for the speedy reply. We love the phrase 'both and' here. I don't suppose it's possible to have both and in the next release - a listing by hierarchy with the letters across the top too, giving added ease?!

How much would it cost as the code already exists to display it like that? Is it something we could contribute to code-wise?

It's a specific example which raises an interesting, more global point in terms of new releases. In this case, there has been an improvement (showing groups in hierarchies) but it has also completely removed some functionality (the ability to see groups listed by start letter). Chatting with Olly at Civicon he was making the point that, with lots of users, it's important to improve Civi, while bearing in mind the use people make of existing functionality.

It could be a helpful thought to have in mind when making improvements - ensuring that any new development upgrades/improves what already exists without removing functionality ie an addition rather than a replacement. With hundreds of groups, listing by letter was mega useful to us.

Do let me know what would be needed to reinstate it. Thanks v much lobo.
